Your Invitation to Holy Week

Worship at St. Peter’s-at-the-Light during the week before Easter seems different than our usual worship.   Everything feels intentional, designed to give us a singular focus on the events of Jesus’ final days of walking this earth in a human body.

Our worship does not seek to bring us to tears or to dissolve us in complicit feeling of guilt.  It seems instead to invite us to stand in awe of Jesus, to witness the truth of his unfathomable, limitless love.  The great truth of this entire week is the depths of Jesus’ unshakeable love.  Jesus responded to everything that happened in those last days with nothng but love!

We do not have Holy Week simply so that we remember and weep over the terrible reality that other humans living more than 2,000 years ago cruelly tormented and crucified Jesus, the son of Mary of Nazareth and the son of God.  We do not have Holy Week simply so lament the truth that that humans continue to inflict unfathomable suffering on each other, even today.

We have Holy Week so that we can deepen our understanding of that Jesus, from the very depths of his being, chose the respond in love to all the evil that was unleashed upon Him.  It is not enough to ponder the suffering. We must understand the love and compassion with which Jesus responded.  And we must re-commit ourselves to walking each day in Jesus’ footsteps, to witnnessing for our world today the truth that Jesus lived in those days:  Our God is Love. Always and Everywhere… Unfathomable Love.

Join us as we contemplate these profound truths.  Links and bulletins for Holy Week services will be posted here by March 22nd.  We invite you to journey with us through this most holy of weeks.

We will gather at these times:

Palm & Passion Sunday, March 24th, 10:00 a.m.

(Our Palm & Passion Sunday worship begins in the  garden.)

On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of Holy Week –

March 25th, 26th & 27th, at noon

We will gather in spirit,  praying Noonday Prayer from whereever we are.

Note:  Noonday Prayer is brief -as short as 10 minutes – yet we will find ourselves united as a community if, on these first 3 days of Holy Week, each one of us stops what we are doing and spends that few minutes in prayer, knowing that the rest of the St. Peter’s community is doing the same. The order of the noonday service for each day will be sent in a Constant Contact email at the beginning of Holy Week. It will also be available in print form on the back table of church on Palm/Passion Sunday.

Tenebrae  – Wednesday, March 27th at 7:00 p.m

Maundy Thursday Eucharist – Thursday March 28th at 7:00 p.m.
